Company Description: H.J. Martin and Son is a diversified construction company specializing in commercial and residential flooring, glass and glazing, walls and ceilings, commercial doors and hardware, and millwork and fixture installation.

Field Safety Specialist Position Description: This position collaborates closely with our Safety Team and is located on-site in Beloit, WI. Initial training will take place at the H.J. Martin and Son corporate headquarters in Green Bay, WI, through April 2025. Field Safety Specialists provide safety leadership to ensure compliance with corporate and construction safety standards, implement safety directives, assist with training program, improve safety performance, and ensure safety policies and procedures are followed.

Field Safety Specialist Principal Responsibilities:

  • Assisting and informing employees on proper safety practices, including new hire safety orientation
  • Provide a detailed written description of all job site visits
  • Electronic tracking of safety training by employees
  • Investigate accidents or incidents that may occur on jobsite along with General Contractor
  • Assisting with paperwork for injured workers in the temporary transitional return to work program
  • Attending safety-related meetings with General Contractors and subcontractors
  • Motivating and developing safety awareness, assisting project management and supervisors in applying safety methods when facing construction challenges
  • Interacting effectively with project management; providing an advanced level of safety knowledge and support, and offering professional leadership, while evaluating jobsite safety related issues and potential hazardous conditions
  • Develop and execute health and safety plans in the workplace according to legal guidelines
  • Performing basic OSHA training
  • Cultivate a work environment that supports our safety culture
  • As needed, conducting jobsite inspections to assess safety deficiencies, hazardous conditions and developing appropriate proactive action or plan
  • Work with project management team on identifying employee behavior-based safety
  • Assuring all employees have the proper training and certification on standards and equipment being used

Other Duties As Assigned:  Performs other related duties as assigned including supporting team members in the completion of their work for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the business.

Experience/Education Required:

  • Occupational Safety degree preferred, but not required
  • Field construction experience preferred
  • Ability to travel daily for an undetermined amount of time and mileage
  • Proficiency in using, Adobe Acrobat and Microsoft Office: Word and Outlook
  • Strong written and excellent verbal communication skills
  • Detail-oriented, organized and possess the ability to multi-task, while meeting tight deadlines under pressure alone or as part of a team
  • Ability to follow direction and manage specific tasks to completion
  • Ability to learn new technologies and concepts

Conditions of Employment: Must have a valid driver’s license and must be able to pass pre-employment background and drug test. The employee is expected to all adhere to all company policies.
