Company Description: H.J. Martin and Son is a diversified construction company specializing in commercial and residential flooring, glass and glazing, walls and ceilings, commercial doors and hardware, and millwork and fixture installation.

Position Description: This position works closely with our Director of Safety by assisting in record keeping and data organization, employee education, and making sure all safety requirements are met.

Principal Responsibilities:

  • Assisting and informing employees on proper safety practices, including new hire safety orientation
  • Defining and documenting processes and procedures to create department efficiencies
  • Electronic tracking of safety training by employees
  • Assisting with paperwork for injured workers in the temporary transitional return to work program
  • Creating job site specific safety plans for Project Managers
  • Assisting Marketing with signage on job sites
  • Supporting Marketing with Job Site Tour planning, event set up and guide tour group
  • Maintaining documentation of accident/incident report forms
  • Identifying safety concerns
  • Stay current with OSHA regulations and industry best practices
  • Assuring all employees have the proper training and certification on equipment being used
  • Attending safety related meetings with General Contractors
  • Document and conduct weekly Toolbox Talks
  • Maintain Emergency Action Plan (EAP)
  • Keeping corporate campus safety policies and regulations in compliance
  • Monitor and update company safety program
  • Assist Director of Safety with administrative tasks such as file scanning, phone coverage, email monitoring and other administrative tasks
  • Assisting with vehicle documentation, such as iPass, DOT regulations, etc.
  • Working with Fleet Coordinator on various items for company vehicles
  • Ensure driver’s daily logs are submitted
  • Ensure driver’s licenses are up to date

Other Duties As Assigned:  Performs other related duties as assigned including supporting team members in the completion of their work for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the business.

Experience/Education Required:

  • Safety and construction knowledge preferred
  • Proficiency in using, Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook) and Adobe/FoxIt
  • Strong written and excellent verbal communication skills
  • Detail-oriented, organized and possess the ability to multi-task, while meeting tight deadlines under pressure
  • Ability to follow direction and manage specific tasks to completion
  • Willing to work a variety of tasks alone or as part of a team
  • Must have a valid driver’s license
