HJ Martin and Son is committed to a strong culture of safety, both with our employees and on any job site. Safety is at the forefront of planning and execution of any project. Many years, the company has worked over one million hours without any lost time.
The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) enjoins that employers have the responsibility to provide a safe workplace, one without serious hazards. Safety precautions should include such things as fall protection, safety equipment and safety training.
All HJ Martin field personnel receive OSHA 10 training, while every company superintendent is trained at the OSHA 30 level. We also have employees who are OSHA 500 certified, allowing them to train others for OSHA 10 and OSHA 30, as well as staff members who are OSHA certified to train employees on Powered Industrial Trucks-Forklifts. Our people additionally are trained in First Aid and CPR.

HJ Martin self-performs its work at the highest level of anyone in the country. We have crews nationwide who are cross-trained in several trades, minimizing the need to bring in outside personnel who may not work to a high standard of safety. And, when HJ Martin personnel are simultaneously working on multiple aspects of a project, they keep an eye on one another.
The Experience Modification Rate (EMR) of HJ Martin for 2016 was .89, well below the accepted industry standard of 1.0 – giving us a competitive advantage because we will not be passing increased worker's compensation insurance premium costs on to clients.
Our effective safety program eliminates hazards and helps to prevent injuries; when injuries do happen, we have a rapid response program in place. HJ Martin performed work in 44 states (we have a general contractor's license in all 50 states), in a total of 729 cities during 2016.
We are accountable to our employees and to our customers when it comes to safety. You will never see us compromise our standards in this area.
