Location: Sioux Falls, S.D.

Completion Date: June, 2015

Project Description:

A $12-million addition to the 20-year old Trail Ridge Senior Living Community in Sioux Falls, S.D., expanded assisted-living and memory-care services, along with providing new amenities, on the property’s 18 acres. Upon completion, the complex had nearly 200 one- and two-bedroom units, including 40 for assisted living and 22 designated for memory care.

A restaurant-style dining room, fitness center, health and fitness center, library, art gallery, game room, party room and a theatre/auditorium are among the many features of the updated Trail Ridge Senior Living Community. New entrances also were added.

The primary new feature of the building expansion was a large indoor pool, along with a therapy pool.  The pool area connects to an outdoor patio, plus three locker rooms, one of which is for families.

H.J. Martin and Son spent nearly a full year on this extensive project. There was a five-person crew handling ceramic-tile installations and a two-person team working on carpet installs.

The tile work was substantial, as all units had ceramic-tile showers that were 5-7 feet high, with walk-in handicap access. The installers of H.J. Martin and Son also needed to put mud shower pans in place at the proper pitch to ensure drainage of waste water.

Additionally, there was a sizable amount of tile work around both the swimming and therapy pools. This tile setting included columns in the pool area. Quarry tile further was utilized in kitchen spaces.

Commercial-grade vinyl was put into place in medical areas of the complex.  H.J. Martin and Son installers were equipped to do the heat welding needed on par with that of a full-blown healthcare facility.

Two H.J. Martin and Son carpet installers were called upon to skillfully lay a patterned rug in hallways, including intricate border work.

In portions of the existing facility, H.J. Martin and Son was tasked with demo work, which included tearing out old flooring, leveling the flooring surface and concrete repair before installing the new flooring.
