Project Description:

The Egg Harbor Library and Community Center is a hub for residents and visitors of this small village in Door County, a popular vacation and tourist destination in Northeast Wisconsin. With significant underwriting by area philanthropists Donald and Carol Kress, what originally was conceived as simply a new library location ultimately became a multi-faceted facility for community meetings, activities and events.

Located in the heart of Egg Harbor, the Donald and Carol Kress Pavilion Egg Harbor Library and Community Center opened early in 2018, with a formal ribbon-cutting ceremony held in May of that year. The $6-million, year-round facility features a second-floor Great Hall event space with wrap-around porches that provide expansive views of the nearby bay and cherry orchards, along with a catering kitchen and a first-floor Makers Space for technical and hands-on programming.

The library portion of the facility offers standard features such as books and DVDs, in addition to a children’s room with play areas and stuffed animals, among other items.

H.J. Martin and Son was a six-figure benefactor on this impactful community project, along with the active participation of three company divisions: Walls & Ceilings, Glass & Glazing, and Commercial Flooring & Ceramic Tile.

The building featured interesting geometric windows on the south elevation, with glass-to-glass corners as well as triangle tops.

The Glass & Glazing division of H.J. Martin and Son successfully met the challenge of large glass corners on the southeast and southwest corners of the porches, transitioning to an angled peak frame on both sides of the indoor/outdoor fireplace of the south patio.

Materials utilized on this picturesque project included Kawneer 451 UT (Ultra Thermal), 450 and 1600 series framing and curtain wall, plus Kawneer zero-sightline glass vents. Also installed were Kawneer 500 wide-style doors, AA425 thermally broken doors, and Flushline™ doors.

A crew of 4-6 H.J. Martin glass installers spent four-and-a-half months on this project, finishing its scope in December 2017. The division met a tight work schedule due to late delivery of wood Glulam (glue-laminated) trusses.

The Commercial Flooring & Ceramic Tile division installed a variety of flooring and tile products throughout the Kress Pavilion Egg Harbor Library and Community Center. A crew of up to six H.J. Martin and Son personnel was on the job site from November 2017 through January 2018.

Interface® Urban Retreat Collection carpet tile, 425 square yards, was installed within the facility’s business center, workroom, living room and lounge for its design flexibility and durability. Complementing it is 6,200 square feet of Camaret Collection hardwood flooring by USFloors within the library and Great Hall sections of the building; this product is unique in that its distinctive character is achieved through surfacing techniques and a finish of UV oils.

Simply Modern 2×2 porcelain tile was the installation choice on restroom floors for its durability, aesthetics, slip resistance and ease of cleaning. Accompanying it was Building Basic wall tile, 950 square feet in 4×16 size.
