Project Description:

Hyatt Hotels Corporation is a multi-national hospitality company that has nearly 800 hotel/resort/vacation properties in 54 countries. Its Hyatt Place brand consists of mid-sized hotels which cater to families.

In mid-2018, it was adding a new, six-story Hyatt Place hotel in downtown Milwaukee, the largest city in Wisconsin. The property was in the heart of the city’s bustling business and entertainment hub, within walking distance to many area attractions.

The hotel consisted of 150 residential-style rooms with an oversized workstation and a spacious sitting area. With its downtown location, management expected that the property’s rooms would be heavily trafficked due to regular turnover of guests.

The Commercial Flooring division of H.J. Martin and Son was called upon to complete one of the final aspects of this urban project. A crew of 6-8 company installers worked on site over a three-month period from March-May 2018.

In all, 4,600 square yards of provided, custom hospitality carpet was installed in the hotel’s guest rooms. An additional 1,000 SY of similar carpet with a different pattern was installed within the corridors.

A different type of flooring product, Ecore’s Forest Rx with eco-balance backing, was installed by H.J. Martin and Son in the hotel’s fitness room. This performance-based surface is a state-of-the-art flooring product that reduces the risk of injury through falls while mitigating noise to enhance guest comfort. It combines 5mm of Ecore’s recycled rubber backing with Polyflor’s proven Forest Rx surfacing to generate a 17-percent force reduction.

H.J. Martin and Son, through its Doors & Hardware division, also installed ceiling-hung toilet partitions in the hotel’s public restrooms.

Throughout the project, company personnel successfully met the challenge presented by the downtown location of the property. Due to the limited work site, delivery and staging of materials regularly had to be well coordinated to keep work on schedule. Available delivery times also were limited.
